Toyota, Lexus and Subaru Recall Nearly 94,000 Vehicles Over HVAC Defroster Issue

A major recall has been issued for select Toyota, Lexus, and Subaru vehicles built between 2023 and 2025 due to a problem with their heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems.

The issue centers on a faulty electrical compressor that may cause the defroster and defogger to stop working, increasing the risk of reduced visibility and potential accidents.

According to a notice filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), automakers will fix the problem free of charge.

Which Toyota, Lexus, and Subaru Models Are Affected?

Roughly 94,000 vehicles are part of this recall. Impacted models include:

  • Toyota bZ4X (2023–2025) – Recall codes: 25TB07, 25TA07
  • Lexus RZ (2023–2025) – Recall codes: 25LB04, 25LA04
  • Subaru Solterra (2023–2025) – Recall code: WRD-25

Owners will be officially notified by mail starting October 20, 2025.

What’s Causing the Recall?

The problem lies in the HVAC electrical compressor, which may fail unexpectedly. If the compressor stops working:

  • The defroster and defogger may not function.
  • Drivers could experience reduced windshield visibility.
  • The risk of a crash may increase in certain weather conditions.

What Owners Should Do Next

If your vehicle is included in this recall:

  1. Schedule a service appointment at your nearest Toyota, Lexus, or Subaru dealership.
  2. Dealers will update the HVAC control software free of charge.
  3. The electrical compressor will be inspected and replaced if necessary.
  4. Keep your recall notification letter (arriving after Oct. 20) for reference.

How to Check If Your Car Is Part of the Recall

  • Use your VIN: Enter your 17-digit Vehicle Identification Number on the NHTSA Recall Lookup Tool.
  • Call Toyota customer service: 1-800-331-4331 and provide the recall number linked to your model.
  • Subaru and Lexus owners can also contact their dealerships directly with the recall codes.

Why This Recall Matters

Vehicle recalls are issued to prevent accidents before they happen. Even if your car seems to be running fine, a failed HVAC system could leave you without a working defroster on a rainy or cold day — creating dangerous driving conditions.

Since the fix is completely free, experts recommend getting your vehicle serviced as soon as possible once recall letters are mailed.

Toyota: 25TB07, 25TA07 | Lexus: 25LB04, 25LA04 | Subaru: WRD-25.
